Ronan Ryan went to New York
in 1990 when he was sixteen. He went on
to become a major player in the development of High Frequency Trading in the
American stock markets. Later he also
became a leading figure in the movement to bring it to back to earth and to
clean up the various scams and abuses that in the meantime had become associated
with it.
He
returned home to Dublin for Christmas 2011, something that Michael Lewis
describes in his 2014 book Flash Boys:
‘He
felt no attachment to the place. “I don’t
belong there at all,’ he said. “There’s
fucking fat kids everywhere. When I was
growing up there was no fat kids. It’s
lost its charm.”
